Topics to be addressed may include leveraging scarce resources, clinical trial development, new research tools, public policy and health care regulatory policies affecting research, and how to identify and disseminate
best practices.
- Analyze the role of a range of treatments in psychiatric practice, including their efficacy/effectiveness and safety, particularly in vulnerable populations, such as pregnant women, children, and the elderly.
- Identify the mechanisms of action of the psychotropic medications.
- Identify progress in advancing personalized mental health care.
- Understand the current state of knowledge regarding psychiatric treatment as studied in large practical clinical trials.
- Describe the role of the Federal government health agencies, primarily the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA), in supporting clinical trials and in the marketing and post-marketing surveillance of new psychotropic medications.
