New
Investigator Award Program
Preparing your Poster/New Investigator Abstract
Submission
Submission deadline has passed.
The American Society for Clinical
Psychopharmacology (ASCP) recognizes that the
vitality and success of most endeavors in
medicine is directly related to the ability to
attract and maintain a talented pool of clinical
investigators. The NCDEU Planning Committee is
seeking applicants for the
New Investigator Award Program.
The goals of the program are to expose awardees
to the breadth of opportunities available to
clinical researchers, introduce them to
potential senior investigators from other
institutions, and facilitate the establishment
of a national peer group for the New
Investigators. There are three components to
this unique program:
1) a day-long closed didactic workshop led by
experts from NIMH, the Food and Drug
Administration, academia, and the pharmaceutical
industry,
2) an opportunity to present a
poster at the NCDEU meeting, and
3) a special Award Ceremony where
new investigators have an opportunity to
informally meet leaders in the field.
This program is specifically designed for
individuals who are new to the field and have
not been the Principal Investigator on an R01
grant. Selected awardees will receive a
travel/lodging stipend and a certificate
acknowledging their participation in the
program. Please note that while fellows,
post-doctoral trainees, and other junior
researchers employed or contracted by the
Federal government are encouraged to apply and
participate, federal travel regulations may
prohibit receipt of the travel and lodging
stipend.
Any established investigator may nominate
individuals for the New Investigator Award
Program. Psychiatric residents and fellows,
psychology interns and postdoctoral fellows,
graduate and medical students, pharmacists,
nurses, and social workers who have a special
interest in clinical intervention research
and/or translational research should submit:
1) an abstract (limited to 3000
characters), based on original
research (with results or a reanalysis of
existing information that have not been
presented or published in the past); for an
investigator in an earlier phase of his/her
career, the abstract can present a proposed
research design (without data) or a scholarly
literature review in a relevant area,
2) a letter of recommendation
from the applicant’s department chair or mentor,
3) an updated curriculum vitae,
and
4) a brief description (no more
than one page in length) of research/career
goals and aspirations.
Please indicate that you are a
New Investigator Award Program applicant at the
abstract submission Web site in order to apply
for participation in this program.
